It's Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I've posted...we've been so busy. One good positive thing is I'm finally over the morning sickness. I no longer feel nausea and haven't been sick for two weeks. I'm so glad it's gone. At night I'm still very tired and can't wait to fall into bed but I'm hungry and actually getting a baby belly now. We find out on October 22 if this little one is a girl or boy. I'm so glad to feel like a human again. I'm starting to really enjoy my pregnancy.

We got the results back from the Perinatologist and it's very good. Here's some of the report that was sent to us:

Based upon your age, the chance that your baby will have Down Syndrome is 1 in 190. The chance that your baby will have any chromosome abnormality is 1 in 123. This means that there is still over a 99% chance that your baby will not have a chromosome abnormality.

By taking the screening test we combined a blood test, an ultrasound and maternal age to determine your risk factor. The ultrasound, performed during your visit, measured the amount of fluid accumulated behind the baby's neck. The blood test measured the amounts of PAPP-A and hCG. The Down Syndrome risk figure that was estimated for you on the basis of the screening test is 1 in 3,900 and the Trisomy 18 risk figure was estimated to be less than 1 in 10,000. Although this does not eliminate the possibility of Down Syndrome or Trisomy 18, it makes the possibility of them far less likely.

They've asked me to come back again for another ultrasound at 20 weeks to scan for any potential birth defects which I did agree to do. I will do the screening for Gestational Diabetes but that's it. I think testing is good but sometimes it can be overdone and provide much stress and worry to mothers. So far, this baby seems to be very healthy and doing fine.
