Two Weeks Old

Lily is two weeks old today. I can't believe how fast the time is flying. She's the sweetest and cuddliest baby. I could sit and hold her all day. We're all so happy that she's here. The pictures are from the hospital until now.

The first week was a little rough. We left the hospital on a Sunday and I thought she looked a little yellow but the pediatrician said she would be ok. By Tuesday I thought she looked bad and I called and they agreed to do a blood test for jaundice. Her level was 19.3 and they admit babies in the hospital once it reaches 20.0. We had to get her under the bili blanket light as soon as possible. The only time I could take her off was for diaper changes and trips the hospital for blood work. On Wednesday it dropped to 17.5, Thursday was 15.0 and Friday it was 13.2. At that point they decided to take her off the light. We had to make sure and feed her every two hours to help flush the jaundice out of her system. Waking a newborn to eat is not an easy task. No sooner than you're done it's time to eat again. But all is going good now.

Today is the Day

It's 2:00 am at the moment and I should be asleep but I have a whole range of emotions going on. Today is the day that the baby will be born. We have to be at the hospital in 5 hours to start the induction.

I fell asleep around 9:30 pm and was awoken at 1:30 am by some strong contractions. Since I've been up they're coming pretty frequent so even if I wasn't supposed to come in today, I may be going into labor already. Either by the induction or going into labor on my own, I will be having a baby today.

Anders came home yesterday at noon and doesn't haven't to go back to work until Monday, March 31. It will be very nice having him home. I'm so glad his company changed the policy for fathers and allowing them to take leave also for the birth of their child. I can tell he's very excited and can't wait to see her.

My next post will be pictures and the statistics of the baby. It's finally time.

Scrapbooking Buddy

Will doesn't scrapbook much with me anymore. But then he's 11 1/2 yrs. old and has other interestes. Now Hayden has decided he likes it. He actually asked to play with stickers. While watching him closely, I let him play with my supplies. He had a fantastic time.

We Know the Day

I went to my last ob appointment ever. It felt weird as I was given no paper to take to the front desk to make my next appointment. My doctor said if I haven't gone into labor on my own by Friday, 3/14 we're to report to the hospital at 7:00 am for the induction.

After all these months, starting with morning sickness, colds, stress, blood pressure issues, tears, worry and more colds it's now time for our baby girl to make her arrival. This hasn't been an easy journey. No more babies for me...I'm done. I'm not sad or disappointed about it either. I've got two wonderful boys and now a little girl to add into our family.

I just hope I have an easy labor and delivery and look forward to this next stage in my life.

3/14 or Sooner

I went to the ob this morning. I'm still dilated the same as last week but effaced more. I've lost two pounds and my blood pressure was 130/83. After being asked numerous questions she confirmed what I thought....my body is getting ready to go into labor.

I did test positive for Group B Strep. Because of this, I will have to be given penicillin antibiotics during labor/delivery. Here's information regarding Group B Strep:

Group B Strep, also known as Beta Strep or GBS is a bacteria that can live within humans. About 25% of women are carriers of this bacteria and don't even know it. They don't have any feelings of illness and are not sick. It is not a sexually transmitted disease. The risk to your baby comes at birth. 98-99% of all babies born to infected mothers will not become infected, if treated. Of those who become infected few will have any problems with the treatment for the infection.

If I haven't gone into labor by Friday 3/14 they will induce me that day. I go back to the ob next week on Tuesday 3/11 and the labor plan will be confirmed. She said they may end up admitting me on Thursday, 3/13 so I can start the antibiotic I.V. No matter what, I've got 10 days left at most to be pregnant. Hopefully, I'll go into labor on my own.

I was really hoping that I would have been induced this week but at the moment I'm sick. My ob felt with me being sick and the stress of labor it wouldn't be a good idea at this time since I'm so clogged up and it's not a medical emergency. I was disappointed but I'm sure this will be the best decision in the long run.

Quiet Weekend

It was a quiet weekend. Will was disappointed that I didn't go into labor. He was really hoping that she would come. I can tell the "nesting" urge has hit big time. I had everyone cleaning along with me. The house looks very nice.

Bags packed, clean house, groceries bought, household supplies stocked up, van clean and rewrote my list again of things not to forget....check!! Now all we need is a baby.

I feel like I'm getting a cold. My voice is coming and going and feel drained today. Hopefully it will go away quickly and not turn into something. I go to the doctor on Tuesday, and my regular doctor will be back in the office. We'll see what she has to say this week.
